Cold But Grateful…

It was a cold morning in the city and yet a line of people snaked from the parking lot into the front door of the McDonalds restaurant owned by Julian Garza, a long- time friend and supporter of St. Felix Pantry.

This year, St. Felix Pantry provided Thanksgiving dinner to 1,005 people. Also, we had over 81 volunteers from the community who decided to spend Thanks giving serving others who are needy and also happen to live in the Rio Rancho community.

A trip to the local grocery store proves that turkeys are expensive. Food is expensive for most of our Pantry clients. Not all Pantry clients are unemployed. Many of these people work, but they just can’t make enough to buy the food they need especially during the holidays.

One Pantry client said, “I look forward to this day every year. I’m disabled and my daughter works part-time. We don’t have a lot of money for food especially enough to buy a turkey. She added, We so appreciate what they’re doing. I think it’s a wonderful thing.”

Pantry President Deacon Steve Rangel said, “Families received a complete Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, vegetables, bread, desserts and more. He adds, we were prepared to provide the makings of Thanksgiving dinner for more than 1,000 people. This year, we served 1,005.”
